Spinach and cucumber sounds interesting; will definitely try adding them next time I make this.

I live in Texas now and I haven't seen Food for Less here or Northgate (I use to go to this market every week!). Will see if I can find that brand on Amazon 🙂

If you are in California try the California girl brand of sardines. It comes in 35 oz tin can and cost less than $2.00 at Food for Less and Northgate. It’s texture and taste is like ligo or maybe better. It comes in spicy and regular. It’s usually on sale for 99cents or $1.25 a can during lent season. Will try this recipe. Thanks.

Loved making this - I used herring in tomato sauce 7.5 oz can (Alstertor brand) and my leftover cooked salmon fillets. Because I like my sauce thick, I just used 1 cup of water. Added spinach and cucumbers. And placed it on top of warm couscous. Sarap! Thank you!!

Hi Biev

Wow! $2.50 for a tin of sardines! The Ligo brand I use is about .80 cents.

I am glad you liked the recipe. If you can find Ligo sardines in tomato sauce, try the spicy kind (comes in red can) to give that little kick of spice you want. Happy holidays!

I like it. It's easy, it's quick, doesn't get many dishes dirty and the ingredients are easy to keep as pantry staples. It tastes a little bland to me on its own so I add a bit of cayenne for a kick. It's not such a frugal meal for me (sardines are 2.50$ a tin) and I couldn't feed 6 hungry adults with the amount this makes, but it's definitely become a go-to recipe for its simplicity.
